Design Justification

Poster Design Concept

Our poster is designed closely based off of Netflix’s logo and design concept; yet, we wanted to keep our own uniqueness and add some fun to it. Above this text, we proudly present the final version of our poster with the Netflix color scheme (black, white, and Netflix red), in a readable newspaper-like layout, and incorporating an eye-catching set of graphic elements.

The layout of the content of our poster is arranged strategically in an order of significance. Similar to reading a newspaper, your eye will move from the top to the bottom, from left to the right. The first thing that would catch your eyes would be the title on the top middle — Netflix 101, which indicates that we are going to introduce the audience to some basic facts about Netflix.

In the left body part, you can first see the most important information consisting of the project introduction and what we are focusing our study about. Also, in this middle is the explanation of the data capture elements which is an essential part of our algorithm analysis. Beside that, the Q&As are to illustrate how the Netflix recommendation system impacts other social actors in its socio-technical system. In case you didn’t notice, those icons are sampled from a quite popular Netflix TV series called Stranger Things.

On the right is our personal favorite. It is a Netflix guide to human, which is a simplified version of algorithm explanation but from Netflix’s perspective.

At the bottom you can find additional information including our logo, our team members’ names, references, class information, and website QR code.

Team Logo Concept

We call our team NETPREF because it represents what we are doing our project about: the Netflix impact on audience preferences. The color scheme renders a kind of familiarity since it is inspired by Netflix, as we mentioned above. The 3D arch effect is to create something exclusive to ourselves.

Website Design

For the website, we chose to follow the design decisions of the poster and logo. We chose the black and red colors to follow the Netflix themes and we also incorporated our logo as a background of the website in order to maintain our own uniqueness while still having enough design choices that resemble something related to the Netflix theme.
